Foxy Grandpa's first EP was recorded entirely in my apartment on a chilly evening in February 2023. We wanted to do something more stripped back and acoustic, and wanted to try to improvise a recording environment. We used 3 laptops and 3 small interfaces recording simultaneously to be compiled in one master session later, with our own small collection of sm57s and other budget microphones we had laying around.
I was the lead engineer, producer, and mastering engineer on this project- it never left my apartment! We also recorded the entire session on video, each song being completed in one take with (extremely minimal, barely noticeable) overdubs done immediately after (Matt's lips were a bit too dry to successfully whistle).
This EP was intended to be a trio of songs about people we love and care about, and we were all pretty happy with how it turned out.
